Money

Which subjects do generally, would you say, acquire people’s attention? Me, I am guessing that it is sex and money. Is that right?

So, now that I have your undivided attention 😉 no don’t worry, I haven’t gone into becoming the next Carrie Bradshaw… although it has a certain appeal.

I am going to lean in a lot today, and go way out of my comfort zone, because it occurred to me this morning that although I have been waiting to address the issue of gratitude and appreciation, there are a couple of things we need to discuss when it comes to money. Money, prosperity and our entire value and beliefs system which circulates around and with this stream.

Money Talks

Big bucks
First of all, don’t think that I will be giving you a magic get rich formula in the next lines. Heck, if I knew how to make a billion bucks quickly, I’d not be sitting here on my computer, but most likely on my big as yacht somewhere under the sun.

The focus and intention of this Newsletter-Blog is around what surrounds you and money. And also a little bit about self-worth.

We are actually not going to be focussing on wealth accumulation, but on the role money plays in Your Life and the emotions you attach.

Money won’t create success, the freedom to make it will.
Nelson Mandela

Attachment
Above all, if you attach feelings to money, don’t. It’s awful.
Money feeds the ego.

Let us use this working hypothesis: if you are reading this Newsletter-Blog, on your smartphone, tablet or computer, I postulate that you are in a comfortable position which allows you to live with more than 1$ a day. You are therefore not part of that population who needs to make money to fulfil the basic hierarchy of needs, as stated by Maslow.

You have already attained a certain level of prosperity and can fulfil your basic needs like food and shelter.

The question is: what do you use your money for & what feelings do you associate with money?

Emotions
When you decide to renounce the corporate world, and leave a secure salary behind, there are many different levels of emotions that integrate with the subject of money. That’s why it is often said that it takes cojones (courage or guts) to become an entrepreneur and change careers.

This is a completely legitimate feeling.

Security is a basic need, and it lays in your root chakra. They are the basic needs on Maslow’s hierarchy (physiological and safety).

When you lose your job, or change Your Life entirely, these will be some of the first affected areas to push through.

Then comes the question of your beliefs.

Write down your 5 core beliefs about money.
Start with “I believe that money…” and then finish the sentence according to what you feel, think and believe.
Are they empowering you, or disempowering: meaning that they are either bringing you forward, or holding you back.

Money blocks

Nick Ortner, Master of The Tapping Solution, has an entire program built around tapping for Financial Success. He says that the first major issue around our experiences with money are our financial beliefs, traumas and unconscious beliefs that hold us back.

You may have unconscious money blocks. Especially if you have been under a lot of stress regarding financial situations, and your body has been running in an automatic fight or flight mode. This will have been releasing a lot of adrenaline and cortisol into your system, which are not only detriment to your health, but also holding you back from pushing forward.

If you run in this automatic fight or flight mode, you are not able to tap into those regions of your brain that are stimulating, creative, calm and focussed. Fight or flight mode is a dog’s answer to a perceived threat.

Basically, fear is ruling you.
When you tie money to the emotion of fear, this will be to the detriment of prosperity.

The Shift
I am not saying that it is the easiest subject to work on, but with time, as you change your perspectives and beliefs, you may also shift some basic values of Your Life.

Very often I hear “this is too expensive”, or “how much does it cost”, or “is it reimbursed by the medical insurance”.

For example, you really know that you need to change Your Life, because you are unhappy with the status quo. Then you hear what investment you would need to make to get external help.

You reject it because you say that you cannot afford it (but is that really true?), or because are you simply not willing to pay for it? Why? Do you not feel enough self-worth to invest in your own development? Why are you making a difference here?

When you buy your food, you pay the price, because that’s just how much it costs. Again, are you prepared to invest in your health, or do you buy from the discounter?

Why is there a difference between investing in material things, and investing in yourself?

Do you not value yourself enough to make financial sacrifices, like buying less crap, and instead, investing in Your Life?

Value yourself and others, not material things
Buying a service is equal to buying goods. You honour the other person’s investment, you honour the knowledge they acquired so that you may feel better. It’s a quit pro quo situation.

You come from a place of the heart rather than from feeding your ego.

Yogi Bhajan says that prosperity doesn’t mean that you will have wealth, health and happiness. Prosperity is like a rosebud. As it expresses its true nature, its fragrance attracts all. Prosperity is always present within.

Prosperity
In Success and the Spirit: An Aquarian Path to Abundance, Yogi Bhajan explains that there is a way to prosperity. If the mind is clear, if the subconscious is not blocked, if you unconsciously live a conscious life, you can never be poor. Where there is a magnet, things will fly to it.

The fact is, someday, somewhere, just be yourself. Let everything go. That day you will find you are you.

The universe will provide for you – that is the magic. It’s simply a question of trust. Simply, but not simple?

I know you need prosperity, you need peace, and you need happiness. They shall come to you if you are willing to invest in life, if you are willing to invest in your children, if you are willing to invest in your relationships. You have to invest, because if you don’t, life will go sour. My prayer is that you must be aware that it is you and you alone who can invest in your own tomorrow so that you can be healthy, happy, and holy.
Yogi Bhajan

In Conclusion

Money is an energy, it needs to circulate freely. Prosperity does not come to you by hoarding money, nor by spending it without hesitation. I am not suggesting that you have to live like a monk or a nun, I am merely suggesting to review your financial ethics and beliefs. There are many books you can read on financial growth and abundance, and who knows, maybe one of them will even spark you and fill your wallet. Wahe Guru!  As for me, I wish for you to not measure your worth by your financial means, nor value money more than Your Life. Remember, money is also just one of the many human-made constructs.

Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.
Benjamin Franklin
